Dry Stone Walling in France!
These lovely photos are from last week which I spent in the South of France rebuilding some dry stone walls just outside the town of Figeac.
A team of us spent the week rebuilding some of these beautiful random dry stone walls from the local Limestone.
This was a new experience for me because in the South East of England we do all our walling from the local sandstone which is quite soft and very easy to shape. This limestone however was not, hence the random, not coursed, nature of these walls.
This Limestone was HARD. It was amazing how it was everywhere. There were literally piles of the stuff EVERYWHERE. Every house, stable, shed, and boundary was made out of the stuff.
